The cerebral remix/digital mashup revolution is upon us. I just watched this film online, about the evolution of copyright laws and how it has effected the US and the world. Where the copyright system was once designed to encourage creativity has been changed to limit the growth of creativity in order to maintain profit from those ideas. The filmmaker brings to light the hypocrisy of corporations and reveals a growing revolution to mashup culture and remix it. To take two things and arrange them together to make something original. A society that shares knowledge and ideas is faster to grow and create solutions to problems vs. a society that withholds pieces to puzzle.
A REMIXER’S MANIFESTO*
* 1. CULTURE ALWAYS BUILDS ON THE PAST
* 2. THE PAST ALWAYS BUILDS ON THE PAST
* 3. OUR FUTURE IS BECOMING LESS FREE
* 4. TO BUILD FREE SOCIETIES YOU MUST LIMIT THE CONTROL OF THE PAST
