The Sensei Say Karate Kid Is Gay

When I was a kid I loved the classic 1984 flick “The Karate Kid“. Starring Ralph Macchio as Daniel Larusso, a boy that gets picked on in high school. In the movie he meets a handyman named Mr. Kesuke Miyagi (Pat Morita). Larusso discovers that Mr. Miyagi is martial arts master and pleads with him to be his sensei. Mr. Miyagi agrees to teach a bullied boy karate and shows him that there is more to martial arts than fighting.

Now there’s a new Karate Kid movie arriving in 2010! And I’m not talking about “The Karate Kid” remake with Jackie Chan scheduled to hit theaters June 11th. Check out the trailer here.

I’m talking about a film that is so inspiring that it’s endorsed by the Matthew Shepard Foundation. “The Sendei” will be released to DVD/On Demand/iTunes on March 9th. A film is set in a small Colorado town it deals with themes of tolerance involving gays, Asians, issues of hatred and oppression relating to gender religion and HIV. With a message of acceptance and the courage to stand against hate.

“The Sensei” takes place in the early 80’s, during the beginning of the AIDS epidemic. After a five year absence, Karen O’Neil, haunted by the death of her husband-to-be, boxer Mark Corey, returns to her hometown to reunite with her family who are leaders within their church and operate a successful martial arts business. After a lonely gay teenager named McClain Evans, is severely beaten, his mother asks Karen to take Mcclain as her secret pupil and teach him the martial way. From all to the inspiring reviews I have read about “The Sensei” this gayAsian is looking forward to seeing Michael O’Laskey as the new Karate Gay Kid – Not to be confused with that awful “The Next Karate Kid.” Has anyone else noticed that Boys Don’t Cry, Million Dollar Baby actress Hilary Swank‘s career is like “The Karate Kid” franchises… Girlie boy gets beat up, learns to fight, makes out on top, but the last few squeals jest get worse and worse… Hopefully she makes a comeback, soon…
